Cannabis Impacts Veterans

Local Roots makes a conscious effort to bring jobs to our local veterans

Challenge

The impact of cannabis prohibition on veterans is clear: veterans have suffered great losses, and in the past, have lost their VA benefits for cannabis use. In some states, including Massachusetts, PTSD is left off the list of qualifiying conditions for a medical marijuana card.
According to a recent survey of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, 1 in 5 veterans use cannabis, however less than half of these veterans have talked to their VA doctor about their cannabis use. A directive from the VHA in December 2017 allows physicians to discuss marijuana use with veterans. Read the directive below.
Veterans may be more at risk to feel ashamed of their cannabis use. Veterans are a high risk group for substance abuse. At Local Roots, it is our mission to provide products for all levels of cannabis consumers; information on the benefits and side-effects of cannabis as well as responsible cannabis use. Veterans can find resources on this page including legislature that will impact veteran access to cannabis.

Value

We recognize that veterans may possess training and skills that make them excellent candidates for careers in the cannabis industry. Consistency,  dedication, and adaptability are necessary for successful adherence to this industry's strict regulations and structure.
Mentoring
Local Roots is committed to assisting veterans seeking opportunities in the cannabis industry. Mentoring opportunities are available for interested parties. Please e-mail hello@localroots.cc
